Monday 7/14/2020: Cincinnati's Burpo wins Player of the Week award It's the 2nd time that the AL Player of the Week award goes to Tampa Bay's leftfielder Bricio Pantoja. Bricio was on fire, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. His season numbers are: .304 AVG, 105 hits, 17 doubles, 2 triples and 30 taters, along with 78 RBI and 58 runs scored. He's 6th in the AL in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Cincinnati's leftfielder Carl Burpo had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the NL Player of the Week. Carl went 12 for 24 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 9 RBI. |
Friday 7/11/2020: Houston's Carlos Bonilla slams five hits HOUSTON - 'You know, in batting practice I didn't really feel that comfortable about my stroke today, but baseball is more than hitting. Then, when you're not trying to force a hit, you slug them in droves,' says Carlos Bonilla after his 5 hit game, which Houston won 12-9 against Milwaukee. A 394 foot drive to right-center marked his 1st hit, a solo homerun off Kyle McCulloch in the 1st inning. It tied the ballgame at 1. His 4th hit, off Jose Ontiveros in the 6th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in center field. He collected singles in the 2nd (one RBI) , in the 5th inning and in the 8th . Carlos scored 4 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .314. |
Tuesday 7/8/2020: Ryan Braun on fire, hits for cycle COLORADO - Ryan Braun is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. His 1st hit, off Manny Parra in the 2nd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. It tied the ballgame at 3. A pitch from Cory Doyne in the 5th inning left his bat for a double. A single in the 6th off Cory Doyne accounted for his 3rd hit. Hit number 4 followed in the 7th inning, a RBI triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Ryan scored 4 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He now has a total of 107 hits this season, accounting for a .316 batting average. 97 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Ryan. Miguel Cabrera was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 9/14/2019. |
Monday 7/7/2020: Haerther (DET) and Rowell (STL) win P.O.W. award Cory Haerther wins his 4th Player of the Week award. AL pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Cory pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .481 with 1 HR and 8 RBI while slugging .815. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 8 game hitting streak right now. This year Haerther drove in 80 and scored 61 runs while batting .349 with 12 bombs. He's 3rd in the AL in batting and 3rd in RBI! It's the 6th time that the NL Player of the Week award goes to St. Louis' second baseman Will Rowell. Will went 10 for 28 (.357), while hitting 6 HR and collecting 13 RBI. Rowell has hit for a .339 average this season. He has 61 extra base hits along with 242 total bases, resulting in a .701 slugging percentage. He's 10th in the NL in batting, 1st in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! |
Sunday 7/6/2020: Gabriel Martinez turns in great performance against Toronto BALTIMORE - With his best stuff going, Baltimore's Gabriel Martinez overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. Toronto had no chance, collecting just one hit against the left-hander. Martinez (9-5) struck out 9 and issued 3 BB, throwing 71 of 118 pitches for strikes. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Jason Botts helped Martinez at the plate, he finished with 2 hits in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, and driving in 2 runs. Baltimore improved its record to 55-33, scoring 2 runs on 7 hits. |
Saturday 7/5/2020: Texas' Miguel Montero clears fence three times TEXAS - Texas beat Los Angeles (A) 12-10, but that was not the real story of the game. Miguel Montero was, as he went deep three times. Number 1 in the 1st inning, a shot estimated at 347 feet, cleared the wall in right field. The game was tied, 2-2, after the blast. His 2nd shot, off Johnnie Shoemaker in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in center field. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Richard Culver. Miguel finished with 4 hits in 5 AB, stroking a double, with three runs scored with 6 RBI. His homerun total this year is 11, along with 46 RBI. |
Friday 7/4/2020: 6-hit performance by Los Angeles (N)'s Jeff Fiorentino ARIZONA - Los Angeles (N)'s catcher Jeff Fiorentino once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Arizona's pitching staff with a 6 hit performance on Friday. In the 1st inning he unloaded a GRAND SLAM off Scott Baker. He collected singles in the 3rd inning , in the 4th (one RBI) , in the 6th , in the 7th and in the 9th inning . Jeff scored 4 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .324. Los Angeles (N) scored 14 runs on 19 hits. |
Tuesday 7/1/2020: Victor Delrosario pitches 2-hit shutout against Colorado ARIZONA - Colorado's offense is good, but Arizona's Victor Delrosario was even better. The southpaw fired his 1st shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Delrosario (5-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 2. Arizona's catcher Neil Walker got 1 hit in 3 AB, doubling once, with 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Delrosario. Arizona scored 5 runs on 6 hits. |
Tuesday 7/1/2020: San Diego's Brian Snyder laces 2000th career hit ST. LOUIS - San Diego's third baseman Brian Snyder already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His best year so far was 2019 where he hit .333 with 16 homeruns and 94 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' His hit in the 5th inning was a single off Eddy Louque. |
Tuesday 7/1/2020: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced Winner of this months AL Pitcher of the Month award is Texas' Placido Alvarez. He went 6-0 in June and finished the month with an ERA of 2.98. He struck out 29 in 54.1 innings. Placido pitched a shutout as well. Placido has a record of 13-5 this season, with an ERA of 3.01. In 152.2 Innings he was able to strike out 70 batters. Placido has pitched 3 shutouts and 7 complete games. He's 6th in the AL in ERA and 1st in wins! Urbano Saiz pitched like a legend in June, and the NL named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. Jesse went 39 for 102 (.382), while hitting 7 HR and collecting 28 RBI. His season features a batting average of .312 (102 hits in 327 AB), 24 doubles, one triple and 13 longballs. Burkett collected 57 RBI and 59 runs as well. Luis Snook of St. Louis wins his 1st Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the NL. Monday 6/30/2020: Player of the Week honors go to Behling and Desmond The Player of the Week award in the AL goes to Kansas City's Robert Behling this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Robert was on fire, hitting .611 with 2 HR and 13 RBI. Robert is hitting .317 this year, with 93 hits in 293 at bats. He has driven in 74 runs, slugging .526. The Player of the Week award in the NL goes to Cincinnati's Ian Desmond this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. It's the 1st time that the NL Player of the Week award goes to St. Louis' shortstop Luis Snook. Luis went 13 for 27 (.481), while hitting 7 HR and collecting 14 RBI. Luis managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! |
Saturday 6/21/2020: Robinson Cano collects 2000th hit against Oakland OAKLAND - San Diego's shortstop Robinson Cano joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a single in the 1st off Peter Leverette for number 2000. Along with his 2000 hits, Robinson collected 273 homeruns and 1107 RBI in 16 seasons. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.' |
Tuesday 6/17/2020: Brandon McCarthy blanks Atlanta with a 2-hitter WASHINGTON - Washington's right-hander Brandon McCarthy is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Atlanta on just 2 hits. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 17th time he has done it in his career. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' McCarthy (10-1) fanned 8 and walked 1, throwing 108 pitches. The hitting star for Washington was rightfielder Rudy Guillen, he got 1 hit in 3 AB, hitting a homerun, and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 5-0. |
Tuesday 6/17/2020: Carl Bourdon clubs five hits in a game LOS ANGELES (A) - Carl Bourdon hits 'em where they ain't. Los Angeles (A) certainly agrees as Seattle's leftfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 1st hit was a RBI double off Michael Lesniak in the 1st inning. In the 5th inning he unloaded a RBI triple off Michael Lesniak. A double off James Unzueta in the 7th inning accounted for his 4th hit. A RBI double off Johnnie Shoemaker in the 8th inning accounted for his 5th hit. He collected a single in the 3rd. Carl did drive in 3 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .311. Seattle improved its record to 48-22, scoring 12 runs on 20 hits. |

Sunday 6/15/2020: Detroit's Jones severely injured DETROIT - When it rains, it pours. Detroit's right-hander Roger Jones will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Arizona where he left the field in the 9th inning. Jones was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Bicep Tendon. His ERA of 3.29 helped him to a 2-1 record this year. He struck out 29 and walked 9 in 27.1 innings. |

Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Inflamed Anterior Cruciate Ligament which will require surgery. He has hit 12 longballs while batting .314 this season. Chicago (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 5th time he has done it in his career. Saiz (6-1) fanned 8 and walked none, throwing 96 pitches. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Florida's centerfielder Andre Ethier finished with 4 hits in 5 AB, hitting a homerun, hitting a double, scoring three runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Saiz. Florida improved its record to 34-13, scoring 7 runs on 15 hits. |
Wednesday 5/21/2020: Jonah Dominguez turns in great performance against Atlanta ATLANTA - Jonah Dominguez had some fun again. Atlanta hitters did not. Wednesday 5/21/2020: Milwaukee's Crowe out for full season MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's centerfielder Trevor Crowe will miss the rest of the season. Sunday 5/11/2020: Atlanta's Noah Rauscher clears fence three times ATLANTA - Atlanta's leftfielder Noah Rauscher showed the world why he is one of the most amazing sluggers in a 13-6 win over Colorado. He almost knockes the cover off the ball, resulting in three homeruns. His 1st shot, off Noah Lowry in the 4th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. A pitch from John Hall in the 6th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 417 feet from home plate in center field. A 389 foot drive to left field marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off Dean Cameron in the 8th inning. Overall he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, with FOUR runs scored and driving in 4 runs. Atlanta scored 13 runs on 11 hits. |

Thursday 5/8/2020: Lesley Hodgins pitches 1-hit shutout against Philadelphia PHILADELPHIA - Colorado's right-hander Lesley Hodgins will never forget this day. The 34-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Philadelphia on Thursday. Hodgins (2-2) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 1, throwing 98 pitches. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Thursday 5/1/2020: Detroit's Heilman earns Pitcher of the Month award Aaron Heilman couldn't have pitched much better than he did in April, and the AL thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. His record of 3-0 in 7 was among the leagues best this month. In 42 innings of work he allowed just 33 hits while striking out 33, compiling an ERA of just 1.07. Winner of this months NL Pitcher of the Month award is Milwaukee's Christopher Jones. He went 3-0 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 0.91. He struck out 37 in 39.2 innings. |
Thursday 5/1/2020: Batter of the Month award winners announced Taylor Teagarden of Minnesota wins his 1st Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the AL. Taylor pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .463 with 9 and 26 RBI while slugging .863. It's the 1st time that the NL Batter of the Month award goes to Milwaukee's third baseman Paul Joseph. Paul went 42 for 98 (.429), while hitting 9 HR and collecting 28 RBI. |
Wednesday 4/30/2020: Colorado's Mickey Vibbert ropes five hits COLORADO - Colorado's first baseman Mickey Vibbert once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Milwaukee's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Wednesday. His 1st hit, a two-run homerun off Herbert Seiler in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in right field. Tuesday 4/29/2020: Jason Place nabs five hits against Houston HOUSTON - On Tuesday, Florida's leftfielder Jason Place displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Houston, punishing their pitchers with five hits. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Inflamed Posterior Cruciate Ligament. Friday 4/25/2020: Chris Parmelee punishes Oakland with three dingers OAKLAND - Chris Parmelee beat Oakland, but he did it without mercy, playing like a one man wrecking crew. Detroit's second baseman slugged three homeruns, once again proving that he is among the elite sluggers. Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Victor Braziel will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Philadelphia where he left the field in the 1st inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Tricep Tendon which will require surgery. Victor has a record of 0-2 this season, with an ERA of 3.90. In 27.2 Innings he was able to strike out 23 batters. |
Wednesday 4/23/2020: Alex Colon fires NO-NO against Chicago (A) OAKLAND - Chicago (A)'s bats were sleeping, and Oakland's Alex Colon gave them no chance at all to wake up. He was untouchable in firing a no-hitter in his 4th game started this season. Colon (3-0) struck out 5 and issued 3 BB, throwing 56 of 99 pitches for strikes. 'Today I just felt great. I had a good feeling while warming up, and I knew something special was about to happen.' Monday 4/14/2020: Houston's Camilo Mazza clears fence four times SAN DIEGO - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit four of them in one game is almost sensational.
